REVOLUTION'S NEW UNIFORM // THE FUTUR IS BLACK
Combining the Somali word for Black--Madow--and the French spelling for future, Madow Futur speaks specifically to the conditions of Black/African people with the statement that Black youth are the future. Each garment is a wearable demand for freedom and equality for all oppressed people. Madow Futur is black owned and operated from Oakland to the world.
“When I founded Madow Futur in 2015, I saw a desperate need for streetwear brand that actively and genuinely spoke to the Black experience. My passion for activism and inspiration for this brand comes from my family’s long relationship with African liberation movements, dating as far back as the 1920s with Black Wall Street and Marcus Garvey’s UNIA. In the 60s, my grandparents met through the Black Panther Party, my grandfather being one of the most prominent photographers for the party. With a fiery passion and spark for creativity that was passed to me, Madow Futur exists to educate and empower the vanguard of tomorrow’s revolution.”
